The Maltese way of life is typically Mediterranean, with many cultural events taking place out of doors. In the summer months every town and village celebrates its own “Fest” in honour of its patron saint, with parades, fireworks, street vendors, and bands playing. The local feast of Saint Lawrence in Vittoriosa takes place on 10th August and is renowned for its popularity and good humour.
From Art festivals to Airshows
Malta and the neighbouring islands of Gozo and Comino enjoy a rich cultural life throughout the year. One major highlight is the Malta Arts Festival, which runs for two weeks in early July. This is followed on the third weekend in July each by the Malta Jazz and Rock Festival, and for those with more epicurean tastes there’s the Wine Festival in August. The last weekend in September traditionally sees the Malta International Airshow, and there’s a historic and ceremonial celebration at the Military Tattoo in October.
These are just a few of the cultural highlights in Malta’s year. For details of many more events and celebrations throughout the calendar, take a look at the Visit Malta website.
